Xara site: I’ll tell you something only if I know where you’ve been..

This is a peculiar site bug.. Go to

<http://www.xara.com/support/>

And try to follow links to FAQ entries while toggling the "Enable referrer logging" setting in the F12 menu. You'll see that if referrer is disabled, you can not read the FAQ.

The reason? The script that forwards you to FAQ articles, depends on the referrer to get the server name.

Why? No idea. It's just weird coding.

  1. Apparently they block any attempts to directly link to an faq answer. I don't know why this should make any sense. 😡

    I especially like the phrase: "As you are probably aware, some internet security products that are designed to protect you, can unfortunately cause you problems when you are browsing legitimate sites[…]" from their "Why can't I read the FAQ" section. 😀

    The only thing I can think of right now is, that they want to track, from which page visitors come to their faq. But from where should they come if it's forbidden to come from anywhere else but the homepage faq section. o_O
